Capturing the changing seasons at Corrieshalloch Gorge called for a different approach to aerial filming. Using a DJI Inspire 2, the project involved returning to the gorge to record footage for a moving timelapse, showing the landscape changing through the seasons.
Returning to a changing landscape
Rather than recording a single visit, the aim was to bring footage from different seasons together into one moving sequence.
The gorge provided a spectacular setting, with seasonal changes in the surrounding vegetation giving each visit a different appearance. Building the sequence meant considering how the aerial views would connect across those visits.
Working with the conditions
The location also brought practical challenges. Signal issues, surrounding vegetation and constantly changing wind conditions all affected the filming.
Each return required a fresh assessment of the conditions. The landscape might be familiar, but the wind and vegetation meant the crew couldn’t simply assume the same flight would work in exactly the same way.
More than a single flight
The project illustrates the work behind a finished aerial sequence: repeated visits, attention to the changing surroundings and adapting the filming approach to the conditions on the day.
The result was footage captured to show Corrieshalloch Gorge through its seasonal changes, using movement to connect different moments in the landscape.
